Lazy Summer Days

When I was young, summer meant at least one weekend on the shores of California’s Lake Berryessa. The whole family would end up there sometime between the Fourth of July and the end of summer for what was generally joked of as “Mandatory Fun.”  Looking back I think the only people that really were having a good time were us kids.  I know that my aunts didn’t really seem to enjoy it very much.

That trip today would take me hours to make, even with all of the available flights to USA destinations, but it is one I’d like to take my kids on one day.  There’s something about being on a lake the size of this one in the heat of the summer, with no worries other than if you can manage to catch your dinner or (Goodness forbid!), have to drive into St. Helina and eat at a bistro somewhere.  Perhaps it’s just me waxing nostalgic, I don’t know.  But I’ll go there again one day.

Maybe I’ll invite Biggles.
