Introducing Frugal Fridays
By Jerry • Jun 6th, 2008 • Category: Blog EventsWith the prices of fuel on the rise and the prices of fresh produce, milk and anything else that has to be shipped on vehicles using that fuel rising with it, I thought it was time to take a look at what we, as foodies and food bloggers are capable of.
This is an invitation folks. A once a week blog event called Frugal Fridays, and will begin next Friday. The challenge is to create a healthy and delicious meal that could serve a family for $10.00 or under. (Your local currency equivalent will do if you are outside of the United States. Just stay in the spirit of the thing and everyone will be happy :D ) If anyone can pull this off, a bunch of foodies can!
I’ll be working over the course of the next week to get the details finalized. Like any good regularly scheduled event, I’ll be putting up a blogroll, and a link back here would be nice. If anyone wants to jump in early to share with the workload involved in a project like this, just get hold of me and we’ll work something out.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Jerry is the epitome of cooking without a plan. As a matter of fact, he secretly wishes he could participate in an Iron Chef America episode, simply because it is one place where he wouldn't feel at all out of place. Not knowing the ingredients beforehand doesn't make him nervous at all. Of course, the reality is that he'd probably lose and look entirely foolish, but hey, it would still be fun!

Sounds like a challenge Jerry!
sounds like a fun thing to do! i guess most vegetarian meals fall into that category…i have to dig mine out!
Great idea! I usually cook for two, so I’ll see if I can do a two person meal for under $5. Let me know if you need any help setting it up or running it. (Not that I actually know what I’m doing.)
I’ve been lurking on your website for a while, but I just had to de-lurk and say that this is a great idea! I’d love to take part. May I suggest that you create a “button” of some sort so people can display it on their blog to let readers know they are participating?
Andy,
$5.00 for two would be acceptable, but $10.00 is fine as long as there are leftovers ;)
Jacki,
I’ll be getting a button or banner out very early in the week. I’m working on several things related to this project at this point. I expect that the first FF will be a bit rough around the edges, but these things will be smoothed out as we go along, I’m sure ;)
I’m a little leery of my skills right now to join, but I would love to follow along with the rest of you.
Katie,
This one isn’t about skills, sweety. It’s about feeding your family well on a budget. I’m confident that everyone can pull this challenge off, regardless of skill level.
But hey, if you want to follow along for a while, we’re more than glad to have you in the audience!
lol! I actually meant my listening and following directions skills, not to mention my blogging skills. ;)
Thanks for the vote of confidence!
This is what I do almost every week. How much can I buy for less than $10? I might participate a time or two. Great idea.
Great event!
