5 things you didn' know about meO.K. I wasn’t “officially” tagged with this meme, but Lisa over at The Homesick Texan basically tagged the entire food-blogosphere with it, and I thought I’d go ahead and dive in. So without hesitation or further ado, here are 5 things you probably didn’t know about me.

Until now, that is.

I met my wife on the Internet:

A true Internet love success story, and it almost ended before it began when I found that she was 11 years younger than I was. I almost just went off somewhere else and missed out on the best thing that’s ever happened to me in my life.

Sometimes I just love the word “Almost.”

We were introduced by mutual virtual friends in a writing discussion group and invited to a group chat. We then started tossing personal IM’s back and forth in the process of these chats. After talking for a few months it was all fated and done. We first spoke in August of 2005 and I’d moved to Texas with her by the beginning of November 2005. I have never looked back nor regretted a moment of our time together, and from what I’ve been told, she doesn’t either. We were married on August 1st 2006, we have a son, a dog and a very happy life.

I’ve met Robin Williams, Metallica and Tom Selleck:

I grew up in the California wine country. Seeing a celebrity or two around town was never a really big deal, but these three instances stand out in my mind.

I met Robin Williams while walking on the Plaza in Sonoma. He pulled over and asked for directions.

I met Metallica (in their original incarnation) at the home of a friend of a friend. We stopped by one day to say “Hi” and found the band sprawled all over her living room. I didn’t know up until that point that she was Kirk Hammett’s sister. I must admit it was fun, but that was the early 80’s, and my definition of fun has changed since then. (I’ll leave the details to your imagination.)

I met Tom Selleck in the Plaza as well. He almost hit me with his car when I ran into the street! I doubt he remembers the incident, but I’ll never forget it.

I have a closet love of El Monterey Green Chile Burritos:

It’s a horrible addiction on my part. They call to me from the frozen foods aisle of every grocery store in the country. They are omnipresent in my freezer, taking space that would be better served by frozen vegetables or succulent meats. But I can’t resist their pull.

It’s nearly as bad as the urge to run to the local convenience store for a polish sausage…

No! I… Can… Maintain… I can stop any time! Really!

I can program a computer but I can’t do simple math:

In my life I’ve programmed in over 9 different computer languages. I can pass complex algorithms equally complex inputs and achieve the results that are required.

To top that off, I can walk through the grocery store and tell you to within 5 dollars how much money will be spent at the checkout stand, and I can do it consistently, regardless of the items purchased.

But I constantly have to ask my wife what 12 + 15 is, and I repeated fundamental mathematics 3 times in school before I achieved a passing mark.

Life is strange I guess.

I owned my first car at twelve years old:

My father wanted me to be mechanically proficient. In that bent, he bought a 60’s model Baja bug with no engine, and an engine in a crate. The promise was if I could make it run, it was mine.

I never did make that one run, but I’ve had many since, and I always do most of my own work. My current is a 1989 Camaro that should be complete within the next 3 years. After that, I don’t know where I’ll go next. I just love tinkering on cars, and I have my father to blame for that.

And with that:

There’s the 5 things about me… the Homesick Texan didn’t want to tag people on her own, but I don’t share the same compunction. There are a few people I’d like to see a bit more about, and so…

I’m tagging the following 5 lucky people: Sandi at the Whistlestop Cafe, Lis at la Mia Cucina, Shawnda at The Foodie Bride, jasmine at Confessions of a Cardamom Addict and last, but by no means least, Laura at Laura Rebecca’s Kitchen and the Retro Recipe Challenge.

Play nice guys, and have a great day!
