There are things that each of us does on a daily basis. Some of them are for our personal amusement, some are for health reasons and some are things we’d really rather not be doing, but end up doing anyway.
For me each day is usually a combination of all three of these things. As a Work At Home Dad, it sometimes means that the workday either lasts well into the morning hours, or that no work gets done at all because, and let’s face it, a toddler doesn’t really give a rat’s behind what Dad has contracted out today. He’s interested in his life, not mine. And then there’s always the other little things…
Thirteen Things I Do Every Single Day
- Get coffee. (this is the #1 item on the list for each and every day. No one in the world wants to deal with me if this step is overlooked!)
- Clean the dining table… Three to seven times, depending on whether I’m shooting a set on it that day.
- Dishes… Twice a day, every day, if not more often.
- Clean the fingerprints, forehead prints and lip marks off of the front storm door and sliding glass door. (Both the toddler and the dog are responsible for these.)
- Swiffer the kiddo’s room. (What ever happened to a mop and a broom?)
- Send over 100 emails to the abyss of eternal spam.
- Browse through all 300 feeds in my RSS reader by the end of the day. (There are currently 54 posts I haven’t gotten to.)
- Play with the kiddo and the dog (usually at the same time, because they prefer it that way)
- breakfast, lunch and dinner, twice for lunch and dinner, since the kiddo isn’t necessarily in to whatever it is we’re having just yet. (C’Mon, he’s not even 2!)
- Turn down the volume on the toddler’s T.V. At least 15 times per day!
- Pick up and return 30 or 40 items to their proper place.
- Wonder how in the world the kiddo managed to find a cup that I haven’t seen for over a week. Alternately, discover one of them under the front seat in the car by following “the smell”
- And finally… Last but not least… Try to get some work done!
There’s actually more to the list than this, but these are indicative of the day, and it’s a good enough place to start, at lest for now. I never really realized the things I just do without thinking about doing them…
Do you have things like these?

I hate having to find things “by smell”. Great list, happy TT
You got me with the lip prints thing.
My list is pretty much like yours, except modified for a 13-year-old and working outside the home. Oh, and I have to add 14. Microwaving my dinner because it got cold while I was trying to get a good photo (and still usually failed).
Make coffee is my #1 duty in the morning, too. All my little ones are grown now, but I surely do remember those BUSY days. You are dedicated to clean up fingerprints daily. :)
It’s amazing how our days are made up of such seemingly ‘little things’ that leave us no time to do anything else! I loved the coffee one….I’m the same. In fact, I practically have a drip feed of it by my bed.
A fun list- it’s amde me think about what I do all day! thanks!
Boy, it must be early, and I haven’t had that coffee yet. For amde, read ‘made’!
LOL I remember the toddler years..I had 3 at once and I remember them finding “things” I thought lost to the abyss..ick ick ick LOL
I’m with you on the coffee…its the first thing I do in the morning! :-) Thanks for sharing!
I think sleeping is always be my duty LOL
