Thirteen Quotes From My Culinary Idols
- Never use water unless you have to! I’m going to use vermouth!

- Find something you’re passionate about and keep tremendously interested in it.
Julia Child
- So when I do Chinese cooking, I mix everything together, then the kids have to eat their vegetables. They won’t have the patience to pick them out.

- Enough people have now mentioned Bill Nye the Science Guy to me that I now desperately avoid it all costs.
Alton Brown
- In general I love to eat anything. I enjoy anything that is well prepared, a good spaghetti, lasagna, taco, steak, sushi, refried beans.
Martin Yan
- In department stores, so much kitchen equipment is bought indiscriminately by people who just come in for men’s underwear.
Julia Child
- Although I don’t take myself very seriously, I do take my work extraordinarily seriously.
Alton Brown

Jerry is the epitome of cooking without a plan. As a matter of fact, he secretly wishes he could participate in an Iron Chef America episode, simply because it is one place where he wouldn't feel at all out of place. Not knowing the ingredients beforehand doesn't make him nervous at all. Of course, the reality is that he'd probably lose and look entirely foolish, but hey, it would still be fun!

LOL @ no.11. I’m a Chinese that doesn’t like veggie. Hehe. My list is up on my meme blog. Happy Thursday! :)
Fun list..Love the Paula Dean quote
Oh my god, I LOVE Julia Child! Next week I hope you have an ALL JULIA quotefest.
Fantastic list. Most of my cooking is “omit and substitute.” LOL! Thanks for stopping by my TT. :D
Love #12! Thanks for sharing :-)
Great list particularly #1 and #11 :-)
What a great list …. I love Alton Brown but my favorite quote on your list is #12 by Paula Dean
Mama Kelly
hehe love those! As a mom of a nonveggie eating preschooler - I love Martin Yan’s quote! Happy TT
Life is binging…Ah, Julia. You kill me.
Between Alton, Julia, and Martin Yan, you could cull another 13 that would still be totally true, poignant, and laugh-out-loud funny.
Awesome list.
Great quotes….though the one from Paula needs its approriate Southern twang….butta
I liked the vermouth and butter quote the best. And your mother was right about bell peppers. I have got to stop by here more often for some recipe ideas, I am a bore in the kitchen.
True story, my dad fixed Julia’s stove and he asked her if she ever saw the Saturday night live skit about her. That’s my dad for you, anyway she had seen the skit. I forget if she thought it was funny, will have to ask him that.
I am comment #13… I should win a prize or something.
Paula Dean is a good southern momma who knows what she is talking about, I’m afraid I’d look more like Big Momma if I really ate like that.
Great list!!
Where’s my prize?
Great list. The book I am currently working on has the heroine who is a chef! :)
Wonderful list!
I love Julia! Great quotes, especially the Jeff Smith one :-)
Great list! I loved #s 1 & 12! Happy TT, mine is up at http://emeraldcityguy.wordpress.com/2007/06/14/thursday-13-4-things-i-hate/
