Each year brings new life, new challenges and of course, new resolutions. Each of us tries to improve our lives in some way, and hopefully to touch the lives of others in a more profound way. It’s the time of year that we take stock of ourselves and our lives, then resolve to make certain changes over the next twelve months.
In that spirit, let me share my New Year’s resolutions with you.
In 2008 I resolve to…
- Drink less. It’s not a problem yet, but I’ll be darned if I’ll allow it to become one.
- At the very least, cut the amount I smoke in half. It’ll make it a lot easier to finally quit.
- Try at least 12 foods I’ve never tried before.
- Spend one night a week just watching movies with my family. we’re both busy people, and it doesn’t happen enough.
- Revisit and update at least six meals from my childhood.
- Share my success or failure on this list with my readers.
It’s a short list, I know. But there’s enough on it to keep me on my toes for the next 12 months. The first should be pretty easy, the second will be fairly hard, the rest are more about scheduling, but that’s important as well.
I actually have more things that I resolve to accomplish, but those don’t have a bearing here, so they will be posted at their own respective blogs.
I wish each and every one of you success, happiness and prosperity in the coming new year. I hope and pray that it’s a good one for you.

Happy New Year Jerry!
From a decidedly NON-militant ex-smoker (I hated their nearly religious zeal when I still smoked) I just wanted to share that for me, the first morning I woke up and “I want a cigarette” WASN’T my first thought was the single most liberating experience I’ve ever had. So I wish you luck in your journey.
Wow you are going to try and reduce both your drinking AND smoking at the same time! Good luck, I look forward to seeing your updated childhood recipes.
Delores,
Thanks for the encouragement! I honestly think that the militant types make quitting even more difficult than it would be otherwise.
Katerina,
I firmly believe that everything is grand in excess. There are just some excesses that I try to keep to a dull roar. ;-)
Hey Jerry! Happy New Year to your and your family. NICE website. I was wondering how it would look. I love all the features. Sorry I haven’t been around much. Clearly, I have to plan for the holidays better. But I’m looking forward to more cooking and sharing in the next year, so Cheers to you and the best of luck on your goals for the year.
kellypea,
From what I’ve heard you’ve been busy, so no worries! It’s good to see your smiling face around again!
I’m glad you like the site. A lot of work has gone into the revamp, and there is still more work to come before the “official” grand opening on January 11th.
Happy New year to you and yours!
Happy New Year and good luck with your resolutions. They are never easy, but that’s the fun part of making resolutions, isn’t it?
:D
And the site is looking great, btw!
