I know that there are a few people subscribing to my gentle meanderings here. I’ve seen you, you know. You’re there in my statistics. You’re a small number, but then this is a new site and I don’t have a lot to look at yet.
I will start tomorrow smoke free. To be honest, it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done. If you’ve got a word of encouragement, I could use it. I’ll repay the favor with a recipe for some really great picnic ham, which was our dinner tonight.
Peace all, I’m out for the moment.

You can do it! I know you can. *hugs*
Good luck Jerry! I took the same step about 2 months ago now and honestly, it has been one of the best things I’ve done for myself so far. I went cold turkey, which is pretty bloody painful, but you can do it provided you’re willing and you’ve got a strong support team.
Things I did that helped me through it:
1. Told all my coworkers that I was quitting, and that they needed to help distract me if it looked like I was going out for a smoke break.
2. Kept lollipops and sugar-free chewing gum on my person at all times.
3. Thought of nice rewards to give myself for achieving goals along the way (e.g. make it through 3 days, treat yourself to a nice lunch etc)
4. Found a way to vent frustrations from cravings. I kept a notepad to scribble in when I got a bit aggro, as well as having a close friend on speed dial on my mobile, so whenever I thought I was going to crack and spark up, I gave her a call and she helped distract me from the craving.
2 months on, and I no longer crave them – I can go out for a night on the town drinking without lighting up, and I now feel fitter as well as feeling bright and perky in the morning even though I haven’t had my morning cig. Life without cigarettes will surprise you with just how great it is :D
Thanks so much Ellie!
I’ve actually gone on a timed regimen. I tried to simply “quit” and became somewhat unlivable. I’ve been smoking for nearly 20 years, and have recently been up to quite a lot in a day. So better to ween myself a bit more slowly, I think.
I’ve got a timer set up that helps me hold a schedule of backing down by ½ hour between smokes each week. It’ll take a bit longer but it will make the transition easier. When I get down to just one in the morning and one in the evening it should be pretty easy to stop.
Thanks again for your support and advice! (and God i wish I could chew Gum… Unfortunately my dental work doesn’t agree with Gum Base at all, so I’m out of luck there.)
