First impressions, Food Network’s Simply Delicioso with Ingrid Hoffman

Ingrid Hoffman of Food Network’s “simply Delicioso”I just had the chance to catch the first episode of Simply Delicioso with Ingrid Hoffman on Food Network. My first impression is that this is going to be one of the good ones.

Food Network’s official description of Ingrid is as follows:

“Ingrid Hoffmann makes every meal simply delicioso with her practical approach to easy, Latin inspired dishes. Shot in her hometown of Miami Beach, each episode features lively menus, clever tips and time-saving shortcuts to help you create American favorites with bold and surprising Latin accents.”

My opinion as of the first episode is “You’ve got to see this one!” Ingrid is lively and bright, without Rachael Ray’s “Over the top” kitchiness. Her commentary rolls smoothly, with the occasional Spanish word tossed in while she struggles for it’s English counterpart, or she’ll simply make up a word for something she can’t pronounce. (”Wusty Sauce” for “Worcestershire Sauce”, though she did attempt the proper pronunciation, which for her came out “Wor-shester-shy-er”, not the proper “Wus-ter-sheer” (Or just “Worcester Sauce if you happen to be English)). This could be annoying coming from some people, but on this first viewing it was just cute coming from Ingrid.

Her show began with the end, then she snapped her fingers and “went backwards in time” to the beginning, with her guests “frozen” on the deck of a boat in Miami. Not exactly state of the art special effects, but definitely not your standard cooking show fare. From that point Ingrid does a good job explaining Latin ingredients for the most part, though I did chuckle when she forgot to mention just how spicy chipotle in adobo can be. (Something I’ve learned from experience, trust me!)

If you have the chance, get yourself some sangria or a margarita and take a half hour to enjoy someone I’m pretty sure will end up on food Network’s A-List within the next four years.

Jerry is the epitome of cooking without a plan. As a matter of fact, he secretly wishes he could participate in an Iron Chef America episode, simply because it is one place where he wouldn't feel at all out of place. Not knowing the ingredients beforehand doesn't make him nervous at all. Of course, the reality is that he'd probably lose and look entirely foolish, but hey, it would still be fun!

  1. Jerry, thanks for the heads-up. I’ve been watching the promos and wondering whether this would be another show with a pretty young thing in a tight T-shirt who couldn’t really cook. Sounds like it’s worth taking a look at this show.

  2. Lydia,
To be honest, i was pretty terrified myself. I’ve been a bit disillusioned with some of FoodTV’s recent choices in hosts. Ingrid hosts a Spanish language show regularly , and unlike some other hosts (who I’ve already flamed) when she has an issue pronouncing something, it’s obviously because English is her second language.

The jury is still out as to whether this will be “the” new show, or even one that I’ll still love in a few months, but the first episode has me intrigued

  3. I believe that Ingrid is here to stay. The show was great and Foodnetwork has needed someone to bring in the Latin flare. The recipe’s were great I have already tried the ones from the 1st show and they came out wonderful. I agree with you that chipotles in adobo can be very spicy, I love them but my wife has other thoughts Ha Ha. Ingrid’s show will be a household favorite from now on.

  4. Being that I’m a native Miami Floridian, I was pulling for Simply Delicioso. I’m looking forward to seeing more of her show. If we’re not home, we’ll be taping them. :o) “Hearing” her takes me down memory lane. I sure miss the authentic Cuban cuisine.

  5. Don’t like her, she is extremely annoying. She tries too hard to be Cuban or Puerto Rican with the Caribean, music, food and theme. She also, tries to be like Rachel Ray, but much more annoying. Her recipes look like no big deal made up recipes and she doesn’t even explain what she is doing and how. A lot of her recipes are not from Columbia, so obviously some of the recipes are not originally hers.

  6. Very Annoying…..Columbian Food?

  7. Uh, that would be Colombian not Columbian….

  8. She is a bit too cute. Is trying too hard. “eyeball it?”. One rachael ray is enough.

  9. I do not like Ingrid Hoffman’s style or cooking methods (what kind of Latina name is that???) INGRID HOFFMAN, sounds swedish to me!! Not impressed by her show one bit.

  10. I think Ingrid Hoffman is sexy and beautiful. She has a different way of cooking which is a nice change. Move over Rachael Ray…

  11. I think this girl is a sweetheart. I’ve done 2 of her recipes and they came out delicious. Simple and really tasty.
I dont think she is “trying” to be Cuban, PRican or Colombian at all, and I dont think she needs to either. And PLEASE do not use Ingrid Hoffman and R.R on the same sentence! That is a sin!

  12. I thought her cooking technique was great and I can’t wait to try some of the recipes. The food looked fun and delicious.
I like what I read today in my bible study and I think after reading some of the coments it might be a good reminder.
Romans 14:13 “Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother’s way”.

  13. I love Ingrid…..I was born here in the U.S.A; but my parents are Puertorican & W.Indian, so I’m used to tropical food. Unfortuneately, my mother is no longer alive to teach me all her recipies, so I’m allways looking for good Latin fare….The fact that she is using American food with a Latin twist, makes it not only interesting, but ameniable to people of all ethnicities, who should love it as much as I do….I cannot stand bland food… ( It must be flavorfull.!!!!) Keep up the good work, Ingrid.!!!!
P.S. How can I get recipies from past shows, since I aam a new member & fan of her show.? Someone HELP ME.!!!!

  14. PLZ – PLZ … IS THERE ANYWAY YOU CAN TELL ME WHERE I CAN GO TO BUY THE SAME COLLARED SHIRTS THAT INGRID HOFFMAN WEARS ? THEY ARE THE COOLEST EVER AND WOULD LOVE TO BUY A FEW OF DIFFERENT DESIGNS – IF YOU KNOW THE WEBSITE THAT WOULD BE LOVELY = PLZ SEND HER MY CONGRATULATIONS ON A GREAT SHOW AND THE BEST LOOKING SHIRTS EVER .. I WOULD BE DELIGHTED TO OWN A FEW AND BE INDEBTED TO YOU IF YOU CAN FIND OUT FOR ME. PLZ & THANKS :)

  15. marie,
All you need to do is watch the credits at the end of her show. It should say who provides her wardrobe. Hope this helps

  16. MarieSagun,
Did you ever find out where her collered shirts came From?

  17. for those who’re still watching this post, I have answers for you, look to the regular blog in the next few days!
(Right now I’ve got chocolates to get posted before Valentine’s Day)

  18. I get the Canadian Food Channel and they cut the credits of most American shows, therefore I haven’t been able to find out who provides the wardrobe for Ingrid Hoffman… I REALLY WANT THAT SHIRT!!!!
Has anyone been able to find out?
    Thanks :)
