Say it isn’t so, JAG!
By Jerry • Jul 16th, 2007 • Category: News and ReviewsFor those of you who might have missed the Next Food network Star last night on FoodTV, you probably shouldn’t have. It was a wild, if extremely disappointing ride.
JAG (Joshua Adam Garcia), my personal favorite to win, ended up having to resign from the competition after it came to light that he’d misrepresented himself to the selection panel. Seems he’d stated that he served in Afghanistan and had graduated culinary school after separating from the marines, neither of which was true.
I’m not going to deny that this upset me greatly, not only that he’d made it all the way to the end under false pretenses, but that a former U.S. Marine would disgrace the corps and the uniform by lying about his time in service. As a former member of the U.S. Navy, and the husband of an Air Force Staff Sergeant it rankles more than just a little bit.
Also, there was more than one contestant with no formal culinary training. The last time I checked, it wasn’t a prerequisite for becoming The Next food Network Star.
JAG, you let a lot of people down, man.
Another note. My wife is trying like the devil to get me to enter for the next FNS competition. I don’t know if they’d even consider me, especially after airing my opinions about Miss DeLaurentis, but the Mrs. is adamant.
What do you guys think, should I give it a go?
Jerry is the epitome of cooking without a plan. As a matter of fact, he secretly wishes he could participate in an Iron Chef America episode, simply because it is one place where he wouldn't feel at all out of place. Not knowing the ingredients beforehand doesn't make him nervous at all. Of course, the reality is that he'd probably lose and look entirely foolish, but hey, it would still be fun!

Yes! I was so disappointed in JAG!!! *sigh* He had it, in my opinion, in the bag.
Of course you should give it a go. My huzbink is trying to get me to consider as well, but I’m more like Amy — who is our favorite. I hate how they keep treating their audience like a group of bumkins who aren’t interested in, don’t enjoy, nor know how to cook excellent food that isn’t something that can be thrown together in 30 min. or less. So I wouldn’t qualify.
Yah, the show was a bit strange with the whole dishonesty thing. Jeez.
Your pantry dish sounds spectacular, btw. Nice job.
I was disappointed with JAG too. He was also my favorite. As for entering the next FNS competition… go for it!
